It’s not very good, and it talks about addiction (specifically drinking and self-harm) so if that’s triggery (or, for that matter, if gratuitious run-on sentences and comma abuse are particularly distressing to you) I’d advise skipping over it! But I saw this commercial for a rehab center that had people talking about the moment they decided to get help, and it just made me think about how there are probably lots of those times (at least there were for me) where you’re SO sure that this is the moment you turn your life around, but all that really is is conviction, and what are you really left with when that fades and you’re exactly where you were before that great super clear moment gazing comtemplatively out the window or standing on a picturesque beach that is somemhow completely empty at midday. So anyway, it’s probably shit and most of the people who follow me most likely won’t read it, but I’m actually super proud of myself for managing to write anything at all, and I wanted to share it!!!! So here it is.

There will be times—every now and then, springing up unannounced from mundane moments, walking outside, playing with your dog, looking at your tired reflection in the mirror, and suddenly you will be hit with a strange sharpness. You will realize how bright the world is when you’re not seeing it through the haze of alcohol, how deliciously warm the sun feels shining onto skin you’ve kept concealed for fear of someone seeing the marks you’ve put there. And you will think: this is it. This is my Moment. You will burn with the clarity of it, and it will all feel terribly poignant and unequivocally wise. And in that moment you will decide that you are done, that you don’t need It, that you want every day to blaze this bright and sharp, and you will mean it down to your very bones. You will empty the bottles down the sink, you will purge your belongings of anything sharp. You will program numbers into your phone: therapists, crisis centers, rehab. You will compose messages to the people who love you, telling them you are ready to change. But soon the sun will retreat back behind the clouds, and the sharpness will begin to dig at you, the stark reality of your life slowly clawing at you until it’s all too much again, and you will decide that maybe you don’t need to stop just yet. It’s been a while; you’ve proved you can live without It. You will find one last bottle tucked into the corner of your closet, and you will pick up that bottle because you need to be blurry again, just for a little bit. And you will pick up that blade, because the warmth of the sun can’t quite reach the coldness that’s gathered in your stomach, in the tips of your fingers, in all of the hollow places that no amount of love or reassurance have managed to fill up. And somehow this moment will feel much less remarkable—you are walking outside, you are playing with your dog, you are looking at yourself in the mirror. You’ve deleted the therapist’s number, you’ve scrounged up one last blade, you’ve abandoned the messages unsent. And you are drunk, and your skin itches where the new scratches are just beginning to scab over, and everything is as it was.

This is perfection in a campaign

I love how they included a situation where a guy could’ve gotten raped. People don’t seem to realize that males get raped too. It’s less common, but it happens. That is what sets this campaign apart from others.
